I was gonna buy breakfast from a street cart, the one on the corner of 23rd and 8th where I get off the train for work, but the line was too long. Instead of taking the bus the remaining almost mile to the office, I decided to walk down 23rd because I knew there was another street cart on 9th Avenue.
But that cart was abandoned. Next to it was a man staging his own protest. He had a table with a bunch of signs, one of which had a picture of Obama with a Hitler mustache and a bunch of words I didn’t read juxtaposed with another picture, this one of FDR with a bunch of words I also didn’t read. I did read the other sign sign he had that said, “IMPEACH OBAMA/SAVE NASA” and inadvertently made eye contact. He flashed me a peace symbol, and I smiled and nodded and decided to try the deli on the next block.
It ended up being for the best. I was able to get real cheddar instead of gross, oily American cheese product and a whole wheat bagel for the health. Also the guy behind the register had a sweet coke nail.
